Matthew, studying art at Kingston University, looked stunning in his military style jacked.

He said, "Brick Lane is about diversity, there is a massive mix of shops, selling a variety of reasonably priced things. People come from all over to visit Brick Lane, it is a place that brings people together. I love hard military fashions".

Military fashion is nothing new, it has been around since 2008 but while some trends burn out, the military look is set to evolve in 2010 and come back bigger than ever. Military is now about functionality and utility.

Franchesca and Ricardo, both Italian tourists, were browsing around the stalls on Brick Lane.

Franchesca, when asked about Brick Lane, said: "I love shopping on Brick Lane because you can find cheap, second hand clothes here. It requires a bit of looking but when you find something perfect it's worth it!"

Franchesca was wearing a stunning lace dress that she got from Italy, and a well fitted leather jacket. Her striking hat and beautiful red lipstick meant she stood out from the crowds.

The Spring/Summer fashions of 2011, according to London Fashion Week, will see the return of lace and leathers- so this girl is ahead of the trends.

When I was younger fashion to me was about matching what I was wearing with my favourite tele tubby, but not anymore...low and behold the rise of the pint sized trend setters.

Heading the stakes David Beckham's eldest son, set to be announced as the country's 26th most fashion-forward male in the country as unveiled by GQ magazine. The young star was listed ahead of Prince William and Jude Law. Shock-horror! GQ described young Romeo (Posh's offspring) as, "frighteningly tuned in". So, it seems Romeo has out shone even his father at the ripe old age of 8, how embarrassing. David Walker Smith, director of menswear at Selfridges, told the magazine "[Romeo] is experimental, quirky and fun, and his style has nothing mini-me about it. It's me-me".

In 2009 Victoria Beckham spoke about just how interested in fashion her spawn had become saying: "We had dinner last night and Romeo wore a suit with a little shirt and tie. That's what he would wear every single day, he's so into fashion". (Interview with Victoria Beckham for Harper's Bazaar).

And it doesn't stop there as last September, it was reported, that Romeo would be launching his own range of sunglasses, to be called RB after his mother's famous VB brand.

He is not alone, as many young bucks reign supreme as satorial innovators and even mini brands in their own right. Other lil fashion gods include; Suri Cruise, Willow Smith and of course Madonna's daughter Lourdes Leon. They seem to be popping up everywhere. This all comes as one of the most popular fashion blogs in circulation is 13 years old US blogger, Tavi Gevinson. She has been a permanent fixture on the front row for some time now and has been in Vogue. Her wacky outfits and precocious musings have won her fans including Karl Lagerfield.

But fair enough, Tavi has her own blog and seemingly no style frenzied parents. As for the others, I can't help but think that surely at that young age any major fashion choices these younglings are making is slightly directed by their parents. Especially young Romeo, with Victoria Beckham as your mum your hardly going to be wandering the streets in Asda's george trackies and a primark sweater.

The fashion designer/high street hybrid

If Gok Wan has proved anything it is that designer get up doesn’t have to cost the world. In his ‘Fashion Fix’, week in, week out, audiences were hard pushed in telling apart the designer labels from the high street imitations, demonstrating that there really isn’t much between the runway and the walkway.

And so 2010 has to be the year of collaborations; the union of designer and High Street fashion. Valentino has done it; Jean Paul Gautier and Barbara Hulanicki are doing it. It seems your stores are worth nothing nowadays without a designer in toe.

It was Kate Moss with her boutique range at Topshop that caused hundreds to flock to Oxford Street all eager to have their own little piece of the supermodel’s wardrobe. This partnership gave momentum to the designer/high street movement and since then it is very much becoming the norm. This year the style stakes have been dominated by H&M and their partnership with the French label, Lanvin. The collection manages to capture the extravagance of high fashion, giving us evening dresses, shirts and quirky t-shirts all at a reasonable price.

However, some pieces are better than others and only time will tell the success of this unusual alliance but certainly it has been a smart move for H&M, raising their profile.

The varying success of designer collections seems to depend on how their clothes translate under the constraints of mass production. Designers characterised by luxurious fabrics and high quality draping are less suited to high street fashion but those known for amazing prints and innovative designs fit right in.

Perhaps designer-high street partnerships are inevitable as store owners realise the power of the designer name for shifting clothes. There is no doubt people love to feel like part of the ‘IT’ crowd. Whether or not this is a dilution of would be exclusive fashion or a smart way of bringing variety to our stores is questionable. Are designer-high street merges merely producing poorly made versions of one-off collections and do these designers even have an influential input in the ranges themselves?

We will never know, but what can be said is the collections do make for imaginative fashion and more importantly in this economic climate, cheap purchases. The new Jil Sander range at Uniqlo is about quality basics and key items that won’t go out of fashion. Ultimately, for designer high street partnerships to work, it needs to be about more than just pulling in the designer addicts but genuinely producing clothes that will sell out because they appeal to the broader public. The future of this fashion hybrid remains unclear.

“Government splits people up, culture brings them together” Public Enemy

Legendary American hip hop group, Public enemy, did an old school Q and A at Concrete in E1 last Sunday. Known for their rebellious lyrics the giants of rap are about to go on their 71st tour. Playing the o2 arena, Public Enemy is then flying out to South Africa aiming to bring rap music back to the continent and snatch the meaning of hiphop from MTV corporations.

Reformed with DJ Lord, who replaced Terminator X in 99 and bassist Brian Hardgroove the band claim to have more chemistry than ever before. One fan asked whether the introduction of musicians took away from Public Enemy's “anti-music message” but Chuck D dismissed this saying it allowed public enemy to “manipulate an array of sounds”. Hargroove backed up the rapper saying followers of Public Enemy, Herbie Hancock and Stan Clarke, prove that the group’s message isn’t one of anti music but one of musical change.

Public Enemy's newest recruit DJ Lord humbly admitted that when he first joined he was “star struck”, joking “I am watching the shows, when I am supposed to be in them”. The youngest member, praised for his ability to do an "after set", and then an "after, after set", is equally known for his work with seminal super bass collective TrillBass.

The staunchly political group criticised todays “lazy” artists, saying back in the day you had to give all in your performances and leave crowds “awe struck”. Furthermore, Chuck D slammed the drug culture that goes hand in hand with some modern music, arguing that people are more interested in getting intoxicated because the talent is “wack”. The American rapper, author and producer scorned Paris Hilton and other talent less ‘stars’ asking, “what the f**k do they do?”.

When asked what keeps them passionate, Chuck replied “travelling the world”. While Flav said God and the fans keep him making music. Public Enemy also admitted their message has changed with the ever changing music scene. Chuck D said “Everything has changed- you always have to figure out a different way to speak to people”.

The first time they met, Chuck D told fans he saw Flavor Flav, dressed in black with a black keyboard and pack of black cigarettes, and said, “you can't smoke up here”. From then Flav exclaims “it’s been a ride!”. Be on the look out in the near future for the eccentric star of 'Flavor of Love’s' La Flave spirits (cherry, berry, olive, sweet tea and bubblegum favoured vodka), as well as his champagnes, chicken house (FFC) and cabernet ‘collectabottles’. Is there nothing this man can’t produce?

Having raised the most money for Sellaband, Public Enemy lives up to their political message. With Sellaband, artists retain complete ownership of the works created and have the flexibility to determine which incentives they will offer their fans, protecting the rights of the musician as an artist. At Concrete we were lucky enough to see the band perform some unfinished new material. It’s hard to believe the man who started Public Enemy, Chuck D, is fifty years old with the energy and freshness of the groups live performance these guys still have an awful lot to say, and they are certainly worth listening to.

Street style along the Southbank

The Southbank was buzzing this weekend as Londoners strolled along the riverside to witness live music courtesy of the International Jazz Festival. The Tate Gallery has also drawn attention recently by homing 100 million porcelain sunflower seeds, an endeavour dreamt up by Chinese artist Weiwei. We took to the streets in search of true London street style...

‘The Chaser Years’: The photographic Art of Pete Williams.

Suitably held on Redchurch Street, a hub of London culture dedicated to art and live music, the stunning photography of Pete Williams will be displayed in the Maverick showrooms this week in, ‘The Chaser Years’. Synchronising with the International Jazz festival and in preparation for William’s major exhibition next summer these images are a joy to behold.

‘The Chaser Years’ features his work for staunchly independent music magazine ‘Straight No Chaser’. Williams remembers:

“It was the late Eighties, and the job at hand was to photograph some of London's most exhilarating Jazz Dancers”.

Rather than shooting in a chaotic club Pete opts for grander settings, lifting art from one cultural context to another. His powerful and spiritually infused portraits, grounded in today’s global club culture feature the likes of, DJ Shadow, the Roots, Courtney Pine; as well as jazz legends Miles Davis and Nina Simone. Williams has even captured global figures such as the former Brasilian Minister for culture and Maskanda queen Busi Mhlongo.

Praised for his “Filmic eye” Pete Williams has an ability to genuinely engage with anyone he photographs. His command of the situation allows the subject to virtually forget the presence of the camera, and it shows. Pete is willing to improvise, to bend the rules and go with the moment.

Particularly good pieces include his portrait of Herbie Hancock. Williams writes “the previous day I got stuck into a furious argument with Herbie over a sound check photo misunderstanding”. Herbie and he later reconciled over a conversation about film maker Michelangelo Antonioni, with Hancock remarking, “Man that Italian dude was wild”. From that moment hostilities disappeared and the photo below is one of many exquisite pictures the artist took that day.

Another interesting story lies behind William’s portrait of Nina Simone. He writes, “The atmosphere is brooding, dark, unsettling and powerful... I turned on a couple of table lamps. She said “you may take my picture now”. Such spontaneity is lacking from today’s celebrity photographers, who are more like vultures than artists.

Some of the pictures were less effective with one of DJ Shadow in an alleyway after his gig. Pete wrote the location “just felt right”. However, the piece lacked the imagination of his more creative works.

The show was accompanied by a jazz performance from ‘Out There’ featuring Orphy Robinson, Otto Fischer and guests. ‘The Chaser Years’ is more than just a photography exhibition; it is an art exhibition that celebrates great music and culture, taken by one of the best photographers of his time.

NEW ERA: 90TH ANNIVERSARY- Bask

in the glory of the hat...

Yesterday in the spacious Dray Walk Gallery (off Brick Lane), budding young artists paid homage to the brand New Era at their 90th anniversary exhibition. The now infamous cap company challenged emerging artist across Europe to design hats, styled as their artistry should dictate including a brief spiel about their work.

Ranging from hats with clocks to hats with faces to hats that were decorated with other hats the exhibition merged fashion and art in aesthetic harmony. The attention to detail in some of the finished products was incredible- one artist actually used miniature trees, model people and fake grass. Although not entirely wearable (unless Peacocking) the hats were inspired and all great fashion grows from wacky extraverted seeds.

Particular favourites include a computer keyboard and screen cap, produced by twenty one year old Spanish artist Roser Moll Pascual. She said- “I wanted to base the design of the cap on a metaphor, making the cap become a computer. As well as a computer, ‘New era’ caps changed the market 90 years ago and they still do. Good inventions never end but evolve and improve.”

Despite their being tonnes of awesome entries, the winning hat was the weird and wonderful Craig Green’s ‘mask of masculinity’. He chose to explore the role of men in Western society using materials that referenced ideas of currency, masculinity and nature (copper having connotations to English currency and class, whilst the use of suede brings in the natural element, along with wood in reference to hunting and nature). The artist said he wanted to look “at the outdoorsman; hunter gatherer and the boyhood fantasy of adventure”. Creating a cap that is as much about culture as it is about escapism, who would have thoughts hats could go so deep!

New Era is undecided as to whether a few of the designs will be manufactured but their cap exhibition proves a lot of exciting art is happening at the moment and projects like this are a great way to get it recognised- hats off to hats!

The Krystof Strozyna show began with a video of pixie like models appearing to be eating flowers in a dark twisted version of 'he loves me, he loves me not'. The actual catwalk was all bright lights and pretty pastels. Minimal hair and make up reflected the gorgeous understated glamour of the clothes. This spring/summer 2011 collection is the sixth one from the designer and showed progress, yet still in keeping with his trademark bodycon shapes. The graphic prints, draping and lace detailing updated the collection. The pieces would not have looked out of place on the red carpet yet could also be adapted for general wear. The static presentation at the end of the day was a lovely touch and a chance to see everything up close.

The Romeo Pires collection at the Vauxhall fashion scout was very reminiscent of childhood school uniform with an awkward twist. The models looked amazing with Geisha style white paint over their faces and teased hair either out or plaited at the back, this all added to the youngish carefree feel of the show. At a first glance you might wonder how you'd wear the clothes off of the fairytale catwalk and onto the streets of the real world, but after another look you realise the smock could easily be worn with a pair of leggings and maybe it wouldn't be practical to wear a waist band all the way down to your knees but it would be quite easy to work the suspenders in to any outfit. Now, the white paint all across the forehead? I'm not too sure how you'd incorporate that without receiving side eyes throughout the whole day. The music initially had a heavy repetitive bass, out of rhythm that was juxtaposed against the minimalist clothes. Towards the end however the music took on an upbeat 20's feel which left you with a smile. Very enjoyable.

Excuse my French: Introducing Stromae

Stromae is someone really worth listening to, even though you probably won’t understand a word he’s saying. Not because he raps about Albert Einstein level physics or raps in Morse code… (Is that even possible?). Non, it is because he raps in French AND he is TRES BON.

Belgian born Stromae, 25, real name Paul van Haver is of Rwandan-Belgian origin, the name Stromae is basically Mae-stro = Stro-mae, which is something called verlan. Verlan is a French tradition of transposing syllables to create slang words. Ok, enough of the language lesson.

His music, without sounding too corny, is definitely a breath of fresh air amongst the Justin Beibers and Jason Derulos and Katy Purrys and Keshas and that new boy band that has just reared its ugly head to rival JLS. Really, is that what England needs? ANOTHER JLS? Stromaes musical career started in Hip Hop but his new album ‘Cheese’ is more ‘Technotronic – pump up the jam’ than 50 dry Cent.

Debut single ‘Alors on Danse’ released earlier this year shot to number one in France, the Netherlands, Greece, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, Belgium and the Czech Republic and the beat is immediately infectious, you are officially dared to not move one part of your body as soon as the drums kick in.

‘Cheese’ was released on June 21st it appears in nearly every part of Europe apart from Britain, which is just pure discrimination really, but you’ll be able to get your hands on a copy from the 6th of September onwards. Stromae is set to take over the dance scene but don’t just take our word for it, have a sneak peek at his stuff over on YouTube, you will NOT be disappointed.

Kanye West has released a video for his new song 'Power', and in true kanye west style that we have grown to love (or hate in some cases) before the release he initially stated that 'it's not a video, it's a painting'.

Oh Kanye, you innovative, creative rapper you. So we all whiled away the time staring longingly at http://www.kanyeuniversecity.com/, twidling our thumbs and generally neglecting our personal wellbeing waiting for the unveiling of the 'masterpiece'. Oh you didn't? .... neither did I.

The music video was directed by Marco Brambilla who also directed Demoliton Man, kanye apparently approached him after seeing an installation by Marco at the Standard hotel. Brambilla says the video has an renaissance, roman feel and after watching the video kanye's recent tweets showing photos of goblets with roman symbols on them make a lot more sense ...

The video is visually very nice to watch and you kind of end up wishing it was longer, as it is only 1.42 minutes long.

The overall theme is decadence and judging by the lyrics this is Kanyes' attempt at tackling the fickle world of fame and his place within it. After the whole Taylor Swift fandango you would assume he would release a more neutral song. Infact if he really wanted to do it correctly he'd have actually collaborated with her, possibly set the music video in a meadow somewhere, where Taylor could play her guitar and they could hold hands. But not Kanye.

Madonna and her 13 year old daughter Lourdes are in the process of launching a new fashion label called 'Material Girl' and in the build up to this a blog has been created on their website. Lourdes is one of these writers. When I first heard that Lourdes would be writing I was actually quite interested, one because Lourdes looks SuPa CoOl, LiKe, OmGz. TWO because since my enlightenment of Tavi, mini humans with opinions on fashion interest me . THREE because Lourdes looks SuPa CoOl, LiKe, OmGz.

Firstly can we all sue Tavi for misrepresentation of her age bracket? Sad to say that Tavi the style rookie fooled us into forgetting that this is infact the Miley Cyrus generation and sometimes they are better to be seen and NOT heard. I'll leave you with Lourdes' most recent blog post:

Im going to East London in the next days, to this area called Bricklane, to get some more vintage – cuz you can never have to much vintagy-thrifty looking stuff. And also in the Material Girl collection, there’s gonna be a whole area of like one of a kind vintage things! HOLLA. Anyway… so I’m gonna bring my camera to East London and take pictures of cool looking people and come off as weird cuz I’m gonna ask people to like stand still so I can take pics of them… but it will be LOL so yeah."

The range is due to be released on August 3rd. I'm just telling you because I know you all want to rush out and buy it.

This time between Daisy Lowe and paris brand 'Morgan', pictures have been released of Daisy, 21, modelling the smart clothing line which she says she had a heavy role in designing. The idea behind the range is to create clothes to fit women wider than a twig, “I’m not big in any way, but I do have a womanly shape rather than the normal model size, and so, of course, I’m extremely conscious of it," She continued “I’m reminded of it every time I go to work, so I had to make sure that [the clothes were] flattering to that shape.”

Generally when it comes to celebrity collaborations the brand will choose a celebrity who has a wardrobe to be envious of, however the finish product tends to be a tad on the boring side. This is a good effort and Daisy looks schmoking in the photos but is it worth jetting over to france for? Luckily you won't have to make that choice as it will be available online.

Football fans the world over are preparing for the most exciting tournament of the year. The world cup which will kick off tomorrow. To be honest as soon as David Beckham broke his achilles heel I completely lost interest. I don't mean to insult the England team because i'm sure their 'skills' and their talent for 'tackling' and what have you will be quite interesting to watch but where is the EYE CANDY?

NOT in the England football team thats for sure. However this post is going off target, the real reason for this post is the new England world cup song. So Thursday marks the start of the FIFA World Cup, and football fever is starting to heat up. Not that we care whether England score any goals or lose on penalties... again. Our eyes were firmly fixed on the new Louis Vuitton World Cup trophy case. and it seems like that's not the only fashion infusion the 2010 World Cup will see.

On June 10, international hip shaker Shakira will perform her new single - the official song of the 2010 tournament, "Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)", dressed in a Roberto Cavalli custom designed outfit with a tribal theme. The Columbian singer will perform in a second-skin zebra-print jumpsuit with side cutouts and a fringed skirt made out of numerous pieces of animal-print silk that mimics a grass skirt

It was a sad day yesterday, when the media confirmed that ex-Stereophonics drummer, Stuart Cable, had passed away. Cable had been one of the founding members of the Welsh band, who had hits with Bartender and the Thief, Dakota, and Pick a Part That's New.

After leaving Stereophonics in 2003, Cable found work as a media personality, hosting his own radio show on BBC Radio Wales. The band's front man Kelly Jones has paid tribute to the former drummer explaining the pair had patched up their differences a long time ago and were due to meet up soon.

Fellow Welshmen Manic Street Preachers are among those to pay tribute to Stuart Cable today, declaring their friend was a "gigantic personality".

Major Lazer (a partnership of Dj's Diplo and Switch) combined forces with La Roux to give us the mixtape 'Lazerproof', a perfect soundtrack for your summer. Graduate Fashion Week

Kelis has been revealed as the new face of River Islands 2010 Graduate Fashion Week campaign. On the run up to Graduate Fashion Week River Island has released a collection produced by designers from previous Graduate Fashion Weeks who now work with River Island. With Kelis’s funky style and love of new designers they could not have a picked a better person AND she looks great in the clothes. Fronting the menswear graduate campaign is Ashley Banjo from the dance group Diversity. Although he is not one to be known for his immense sense of style he can go on his tippy toes a la Michael Jackson, this must count for something. Graduate Fashion Week kicks off on June 6th at Earls court and finishes on the 9th of June.

The collection is out now in selected stores and via the River Island website.

M.I.A. is on her publicity trail in preperation for her new album titled /\/\/\Y/\ which looks like a bunch of gobbldy goop to us but probably has a very deep political meaning (personally I think it's meant to look like MAYA). The album is due for release on July the 12th and she recently graced the cover of NME. On the site there is a pretty cool video interview with her regarding the sound of the album, 'schizophrenic' and the Conservatives, 'politics isn't politics anymore'. Yesterday Topshop launched its first make up range under the ever so interesting name of 'Topshop Make up'. Judging from the rave reviews from fashion insiders, it is safe to assume that while the name may be on the bland side, there is nothing bland about this make up range.

The collection is a collaboration between Topshop and make up artist Hannah Murray who has worked with Mario Testino, Luella among many others. As with everything to do with Topshop it is heavily influnced by the catwalk and it is promised that there will be a trend collection that is refreshed twice every season. Sounds exciting.

To launch the collection there are a few instore events happening, the coolest one sounds like the 'Mirror Mirror' installation that's based in Oxford Circus. Using a huge interactive mirror you can get tailored fashion tips from the likes of Nicola Formachetti and Louise Goldin. Along with this there will be make up artist trained by Hannah Murray giving make overs instore.

R.I.P. Malcolm Mclaren

Malcolm Mclaren famous for managing the sex pistols among other great bands was laid to rest today after passing away on April 8th in switzerland at the young age of 64. The Punk advocate had been battling against cancer since october 2009. His funeral proceedings carried on in true punk fashion. His coffin was spray painted with the words "Two fast to live too young to die" the name of his shop on kings road and the horse drawn hearse was followed by four cars and a green routemaster - Destination 'Nowhere'.

Vivenne Westwood had this to say:

"I am very, very sad that unbelievably Malcolm is dead and I just wanted to say
on this cruel, cruel day - get a life, do something with it."

Other Guests in attendance to pay their respects were Adam Ant, Bob Geldof and Sex Pistols' drummer Paul Cook. Mclarens Family urged the public to have a 'minute of mayhem' at noon in tribute, "Put on your favourite records and let it RIP!"

A send off which I expect Mclaren would have been proud of.

These days it's just not enough to have on job title on your CV. We've seen model turned designer, model turned actress - but what about Model turned Rock Chick? Well look no further than Alice Dellal. The 21 year old model has added another string to her bow and has teamed up with some of her fashionable mates and started an all-girl rock band. We knew she wasn't just a pretty face.

Dellal is infamous for her punky, rock look with black leather, partially shaved head and Dr. Marten boots, so it was only a matter of time before she hit the rock music scene.

The girls have settled on the name Thrush Metal, and have rumoured to be inspired by James Jagger's band Turbogeist.

The other Thrush Metal members include Isabella Ramsey, niece of the Earl of Dalhousie, and fellow models Emma Chitty and Laura Fraser.

A source says: “Alice has rallied pals together, and they’re all keen to make the music work. They’ve been rehearsing and it shouldn’t be long before they get a demo together and start touring.”

However their recent gigs have only been by Facebook invitation only - so I guess they're not ready to hit the world stage just yet.

Tentatively we have begun to put down our scarves and remove that extra layer from under our coats. While we still don't COMPLETELY trust the weather (the faithful umbrella still has a place in our hand bags), we are beginning to embrace the new season.

Spring! Yes the sun has been creeping out and teasing us with a few heat rays, it is time to stop perving over the spring trends, with our heaters on full blast and perhaps, maybe, ever so slightly, begin to wear them? YES.

Here are a few trends that you may want to dabble in:

Pastel colours Yes, yes and yes. This was seen at House of Holland, be sure to avoid looking like someone trying to relive their childhood unless you like that sort of thing. Personally I do.

Nails

They have been slightly neglected, hello gloves. But now treat them to something crazy, a simple manicure won't do.

Sheer clothing This cheeky trend might raise a few eyebrows if worn wrong, hell, even if you wear it right but most definitely WEAR IT.

Prints Tribal, floral, digital, animal, these prints will be everywhere and clashing fabulously *snap snap*

Trenchs As seen at burberry. Great as a light coat to throw on when an inevitable snow storm takes place during a heatwave. Got to love British weather.

R.I.P. Nujabes

Sadly on Febuary the 26th Jun Seba (Nujabes) was involved in a fatal car accident in Tokyo at the age of 36. A few weeks later on March 18th his death was confirmed by his record label as his family wanted time to mourn in private. Nujabes was a Japanese hip hop producer and DJ, who was not very well known outside of the undergound hip hop scene but he created chilled out bass driven music with influnces from Jazz. His music is a lifetime away from the 'fast food' throw away songs that currently top the charts and his presense within music will be sorely missed by many.

During London fashion week Alice and I were fortunate enough to attend a Sophie Hulme presentation: click. I really loved the collection however I dared not think about the price of certain items, especially the tan leather bag (that I actually fell in love with). The accessories definitely held their own amongst the clothes and today I was on ASOS.com and stumbled upon this baby:

Jack. Pot. Sophie Hulme is currently collaborating with ASOS and this necklace reminds me of the whistle detail necklace that she featured in the A/W 10 collection (see the past Sophie Hulme post for pictures). The necklace reads 'I love my Nan'. It's cute and true! Well I hope so, I hope no one hates their Nans'. Anyway, back on topic. There's also a gorgeous minimalist navy blue jumpsuit which is VERY reminiscent of the navy crepe satin jumpsuit that was in the presentation.

Daft Punk is playing at our show

We've seen a few artists team up with fashion houses over the past few seasons, think Lily at Chanel and those cheeky Kooks' boys at Burberry, but the latest collaboration comes via LCD Soundsystem. The electro-pop band provided the backdrop to YSL's Autumn/Winter collection this week in Paris.

The band are who played live at the show, composed the piece just for this collection. The group are well-known for their mature electro sound (who can forget their track Daft Punk Is Playing At My House - it was made for dancing to) so it was definitely a surprise choice for the famous French brand. YSL are known for their elegant and glamourous designs, so paired with crashing beats it shouldn't fit, but somehow it does.

The collection on the whole had a dark theme, with flashes of jewel tones, which is where I think LCD Soundsystem came in. Along with the colour pop of the shoes, the bouncy electro-pop soundtrack helped to lift the mood.

I'm now off to re-kindle my love for the band, but here's a track to tickle your fancy if you've not already tasted the delights the band have to offer.

Amy Winehouse isn't singing anymore (...well, for now)

There are many words that come to mind when viewing a picture of Amy Winehouse. Funnily enough 'Fashion' and 'Designer' are neither of them. Well the world and the people who inhabit it continue to surprise me because 'fashion designer' is exactly the credentials that the winehouse can officially add to her CV. Amy has always maintained a certain style of her own that gave a nod to the 50's and she has now teamed up with Fred Perry to produce a 17 piece collection. It's no secret that she's a huge fan of theirs as she can be regularly seen out and about in a t-shirt of theirs usually paired with a high waisted skirt and a huge belt.

Apparently Amy has also been heavily involved in the designing, Fred Perrys marketing director says “We had three major design meetings where she was closely involved in product style selection and the application of fabric, color and styling details. Amy gave crucial input on proportion, color and fit, the range clearly has Amy’s handwriting.” The range is due to be released in October and if all goes well she'll be working with them for four more seasons.

Originally I was going to post the pictures from the Balmain show within the Paris fashion week round up, HOWEVER have you SEEN the collection? Seriously I have fallen in love and I could not choose just a few to put into the slideshow ... and now here we are. Apparently a range of songs from the singer Prince was the soundtrack playing during the show, I can see how this would fit perfectly with the collection. The dramatic shoulders are very 80's and with the leather, sheer, fur and velvet that littered the catwalk you could actually imagine prince himself wearing the collection. On the other hand I can also imagine MYSELF wearing the collection; i'll have it all please. Thank you!

The infamous fashion designer has just released a compilation album titled “Proud to be Woman” to help celebrate International Women's Day. The CD will be in aid of Vital Voices - an organisation dedicated to the empowerment of women.

Artists including Joss Stone, Mary J. Blige and Estelle, all make appearances on the album, which is available to download now on iTunes.

So Lucie Jones, remember her? X Factor? ...No? She was ever so slightly boring, nice but Jedward4ever I think. Lucie was voted out of X factor in the 5th week, perhaps her talent wasn't fully realised during the show, perhaps the X factor is just another brainless reality TV show masquerading as a talent show which in actual fact cares more about the drama than the vocals. Who knows, either way there was a light at the end of the tunnel for Lucie as she was quickly signed up by Select model management and is now being promoted as one of the 'Verve' models. Judging from the newly released photos Lucie definitely has the Xfactor infront of the camera. Good luck to her.

Kinder Agguginis’ inspiration came from Juliette Recamier for his A/W 2010 collection, a woman who stood up to napoleon 1 and maintained one of the most famous literary and political salons in Paris. Staying true to his usual punk references, he believed that if she were to be alive today she would be a woman who lived like a true Rockstar. He incorporated this into this collection by highlighting strong femininity and underlying defiance with the marriage of flowing empire dresses worn under strong rigid military inspired cashmere coats. Kinder Aggugini has always said that his prevailing inspiration is the fictitious marriage of Coco Channel and Sid vicious; this was once again present throughout. Also cleverly he took the polka dot lining that was on the inside of some of the coats and used it on the back of the invitations, which nicely carried on the theme.

Gemma Slack Presentation

Gemma slack continued her trademark gothic inspired clothes at Vauxhall Fashion scout. The presentation took place in the luxurious Freemasons’ hall and complemented the clothes to a T. When we arrived there was a long winding queue with people eager to get in to view the clothes. Once we got into the room it was absolutely packed, I think I even overheard one stylishly clothed man harshly telling someone to "move out of his way"…temper temper. At one end of the room there was a short film playing on a loop, it was being projected onto a wall and featured startling images of models. The clothes did not fail to please, I especially loved the jumper with leather detailing and huge studs. Gemma drew inspiration from Bram Stoker’s Dracula which was noticeable straight away. This collection also saw Gemma collaborating with Katie Rowland Jewellery (‘Rowland VS Slack’) resulting in the striking accessories seen in the collection.

Really enjoyed the Sophie Hulme presentation, this time I was joined by fellow Fash Bash writer, Alice. The collection appeared to draw upon military influences, many of the pieces had large practical pockets and virtually every item had strong brass detailing which conveyed an image of armour. One of my favorites was the tan leather tote bag which I couldn’t take my eyes off of. I also met someone else at the presentation who said the exact same thing! The atmosphere was very light and the ethereal music combined with the hanging collection created a lovely airy atmosphere and was a great environment to view the clothes of this talented designer.

R.I.P. Lee Alexander McQueen

The first day of fashion week opened with a speech from Harold Tillman and the prime ministers wife Sarah Brown. Harold Tillman also asked for a one minute silence for Alexander McQueen. Which everyone obliged, well, apart from the fash packs beeping blackberrys that stop for no one and had to be hastily switched off. I felt their pain, I remember thinking "please no one call me, please no one txt me" and then after the one minute silence was over thinking "how comes no one called or txted me?". My phone can't win.

There was also a wall for McQueen, where people could write notes for him and post pictures. As you walked into the main tent you kind of immediately gravitated towards the wall, it created a slightly sombre atmosphere amongst the excitement and you couldn't help but feel a little sad.

Fashion week kicked off with Paul Costelloe and fash bash were there to ogle. The music was country and western themed and before the show started guests were treated to a Dolly Parton soundtrack. Then the lights went down, the catwalk lit up and girls with huge hair stalked down the runway in big lampshade esque skirts and coats. A mixture of metallic colors and also more earthy hues went down really well. Also, not forgetting the SKIN TIGHT, leather, thigh high, skyscraper BOOTS that I tried to zoom in on but failed massively. We were also treated to a preview of the mens' collection which was very 'the good the bad and the ugly' mixed with 'Dirty Harry'. Yes it worked.
